Recording

There are two ways how to record your tracks and mileage data. You can start and stop GPS recording manually or let Auto recording do its job.

Manual recording

Manual recording is available right after you start the app. Just don’t forget to set your vehicle and choose if your trip is business or personal – you can though change that during or after you end recording. If you tap Start recording button and you need to do any other work with your device you can freely leave the app. You’ll see icon in your status bar indicating that the app is recording.

Auto recording

Auto recording is one really powerful feature. You turn it on and can forget about that MyCarTracks is recording all your trips. It records only when your vehicle is exceeding preferred speed. After you install MyCarTracks app it is configured for common use. You can though enter the settings and change everything. You can find the settings: tap MyCarTracks on your phone and select Settings. Here you’ll find Auto recording item:

NOTICE: Before you read more, notice that our app is ready to use and set up with commonly used settings right after you install it. So you don’t need to change anything. But the power of customization is great!

1. Auto recording action

Here you can choose the action on which auto recording starts. Default option is On car move – this option automatically determines if you are moving or not and starts recording. If the phone is standing still it saves the battery by turning off unused mobile resources like GPS module.

The option On charger best fits for people who puts his device into car holder with charger. Choose it if you are one of them.

2. Max waiting time

To avoid that you get pieces of a track instead of whole track whenever you stop on traffic light we added a feature where you can decide what is the time the app should wait until it ends a track. The default value is 2 minutes but you can use any from 30 seconds till one hour.

3. Min moving speed

A common question: “you are recording with a phone that I take with me away from the car. How do you then know when I am driving?”This option let you decide if you want to track also your “not driving car” tracks. The default value here is 10 km/h (6.20 mph) – the app starts recording a new track only when the speed exceeds this value. You can change it from 1 to 50 km/h (0.60 – 31.00 mph).

4. Battery life enhancement

This is the feature we mentioned earlier and we are proud on it. From available sensors of your device that aren’t so battery consuming we know if the vehicle is moving and turning on or off the more battery consumers, like GPS, afterwards.

5. Calculate missing mileage

During the day when Auto recording is turned on it’s normal you lose GPS signal. Maybe you parked in underground parking or the signal isn’t available right after you get out of the building and start driving. This feature, when turned on, automatically calculates these missing data from the point you lose GPS signal till it’s available.

6. Notify on low battery

As a manager of your fleet you need to know if some of your employee isn’t running out of battery. You can then inform him about that he should put the device on charger. With this feature turned on the phone would sent the info to www.mycartrack.com web application about battery level when it’s below 10%.

7. Allow position request

Sometimes, when the vehicle is not moving, recording is turned off or you aren’t using online tracking it comes handy if you can get the actual position on demand. With this feature turned on you can send a request to mobile device so it sends the actual position and views it on a map.

8. Allow SMS position request

The same as previous, the only difference is that with this option turned ON you can also obtain a position by sending short SMS to that phone with a text GETPOS.
